BikeMS training ride

Yesterday was a beautiful day to ride!
On very short notice, cyclists from 8 years old to 70 came out to White Rock lake to get in a few laps of training in the sun.
Our youngest and oldest riders each did one full lap (9.3 miles), others did two mid-pace and a couple of hotshots did a full-on race-pace lap in under 28 minutes.
The wind was a bit of a challenge, but everyone seemed to have a good time.
Keep an eye out here, twitter and Facebook for more “impromptu” rides!
Spin class…avoiding the cold
// January 9th, 2010 // 1 Comment » // Rides
Junior IC3′er Landon and I went to the free spin class offered by Richardson Bike Mart this morning. Typically, there are a dozen groups rides of varying distances and pace that leave from the main shop. With the temps in the teens, Max and Sam offered up the indoor alternative at no charge. They were taking donations to Team Bikemart (BikeMS team).
This was one of the normal classes that they run during the week, and the first intensity workout for either of us in months. Landon made it about 45 minutes before I had him back off and just spin. I pedaled the whole thing, but frequently had to drop from the instructed 100 rpms to 85 to manage. We are both still in the Base period, with our first race scheduled for April. This was a good introduction for Landon to intervals, and a good chance for me to gauge his fitness level.
No doubt we’ll do some of the evening classes before they stop at the end of March.
If you get the chance, its a good bunch to spin with.

2010 BikeMS team formed
// January 8th, 2010 // No Comments » // Christianity, Rides
The North Texas spoke and I am Second have combined to create a faith-based team for the 2010 DFW BikeMS. This is a non-competitive team for anyone that calls Jesus Lord and wants to follow His teachings by putting others first. In this case, by raising $300 or more for the Lone Star chapter of the MS Society.
Click the link above for more info on the team, or to sign up.
The first training ride is a spin class on 1/9/10 at Richardson Bike Mart, Campbell and Coit. 9am, but get there before that. $5 trainer rental if you don’t have your own…limited quantities available. bring a towel.
Steen Rose from OnTrack Coaching has agreed to help us out with training rides and plans as well: Meet Steen

Fellowship Ride, 9/6/2009
// September 8th, 2009 // No Comments » // Christianity, Rides
We had one of our “pretty much twice a month” Fellowship rides from McKinney on Sunday afternoon. In addition to IC3 members Landon, Kari, Kolton, Michael and myself we were joined by Todd, Al, Jake and longtime IC3 friend Key.
We took a rambling route out from Crosspoint Church (Stonebridge and Coronado) and went West from there to Rockhill road. There was a tad more traffic than expected for a Sunday afternoon, but we made the best of it. On the way back, Jake’s suspension decided to explode and became unrideable. We sent Landon and Michael sprinting back to the church to get SAG vans…including Jake’s parents. Kari and Kolton (8 years old) took the van back as the rest of us rode it back to the church.
Good ride, good times, fun stories.

Networking Rides
// September 8th, 2009 // No Comments » // Rides
On September 3, 4 riders gathered at White Rock Lake at 1pm for a “Networking Ride.” Mark, Clay, Joe and I rode 3 laps together and then Clay and I continued on for a 4th lap after Mark and Joe had to take off.
The purpose/goal of this ride is to give folks that are available the chance to get out and meet people that they wouldn’t normally ride with.
- Unemployed and looking for work
- Unemployed and happy about it
- Retired
- Stay-at-home moms/dads
- Flex-time workers
- Recruiters willing to sweat to make contacts
The path ahead:
Mark and Joe:
Hopefully, this will become a regular Thursday afternoon ride year-round. Even more hopefully, connections will be made for those looking for work, business deals etc.
Please come join us…1pm at the parking lot on West Lawther between the Boat House and the kids playgrounds near TP Hill.

Men’s Cat 5 Race
// July 11th, 2009 // No Comments » // Uncategorized
Well, folks, last race of the day. The Men’s Cat5 is underway. We had a guy crash in the Men’s 35+/4/5. Evidently he smacked his head pretty good and has been transported to the hospital. Please lift him up in your prayers. He finished the race but is feeling pretty bad right now.
Here is a plug for RoadID (one of our sponsors). When you are out on the road and bad things happen, make sure that you have all of you important information easily available. RoadID has an online information database that insures that all of your important information is available should something go wrong.
The field is pretty spreadout. There are a couple small groups, but alot of guys are riding solo.
The Cat5 is becoming a splash zone as the fans empty their coolers and try and cool off the racers.
The Race Results for the Men’s Cat5 race are: 1: Jon Emmons, 510
2: Baylor Blessing, 517
3: Chad Jarrett, 506
The Preme winners in order of award are: 510, 517, 509
Thanks, everyone who has been following the blog today. But thanks to all of our sponsors who made this event possible. Please patronize our sponsors and let them know how much we appreciate their help putting this event on.
Dan out.
Women’s Cat 4
// July 11th, 2009 // No Comments » // Uncategorized
The Women’s Cat 4 race is underway. The field is a bit splintered, as these women press on in the heat and the stiff breeze. We witnessed our first shoe change, as one of the racers had to start with one race shoe and a flip-flop.
Dispite the heat and wind the leaders pace is not too far off the pace of other races today. Lindsy Shafer, the leader, is beginning to lap members of the field that have fallen off the pace.
We’ve had our first rider fall victim to the heat. The EMTs are attending to her.
The last preme was decided by 0.0047seconds, between 211 beating 210.
Race Results are as follows: 1: Lindsey Shafer, 204
2: Loren Eggenschwiler, 203
3: Rebecca Bradley, 211
Primes went to 204, 211, 213, 202 & 211 by order of Prime.
